Tashi Family

Tashi was founded by Chamy and Michella Perera. The two sisters with a vision to create a brand that was both elegant and environmentally sustainable. We created Tashi on the belief that through modern innovative materials we can achieve an uncompromising balance between style, self expression and sustainability.

Our Mission

Our aim is to give our customers a truely ethical and sustainable product that is also durable, elegant and opulent.

We do this by:

  • Designing products that are both functional and stylish
  • Choosing environmentally friendly materials
  • Sourcing responsibly
  • Designing and crafting all our products in Florence, Italy

Our Materials

We are proud to say that all our wallets are crafted from cactus leather. This innovative material is highly sustainable and bio-degradable, making it an environmentally conscious choice for those seeking vegan leather alternatives. Sourced from the Nopal Cactus, a plant known for its resilience in harsh environments and degraded lands where other vegetation struggles to survive. This remarkable plant requires minimal water, no fertilizer, or pesticides to grow. Making cactus leather a truly sustainable option for conscious consumers.

The mature cactus leaves are carefully harvested without causing harm to the parent plant. These leaves are mashed and left to dry naturally under the sun for approximately three days. Once dried, the cactus is ground into a fine powder which is then blended with non-toxic chemicals to produce vegan leather with different textures and colors.

In the harvesting of cactus leaves, the plant is undamaged. A plant has a useful life of around eight years.  Harvesting of leaves occurs almost semi-annually. The production of one linear meter of cactus leather requires as few as three cactus leaves.

Cultivating prickly pears requires significantly less water compared to cotton farming. An estimated 200L of water is all it takes to produce 1 KG of cactus, while a staggering 2,400L of water is needed for the same weight of cotton fiber. Moreover, these plants are capable of absorbing large amounts of Co2 from the atmosphere.
